Books on Dogs and Teeth

Here two graphic novels I would recommend to get. Their art style is somewhat refreshing to me after reading a lot of mangas and Marvel and DC books. Not to mention the storyline is entertaining and different.

Here's Beast of Burden: Animal Rights hardbound book by Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson. This book got everything I like; Horror, animal characters and Jill Thompson. I like reading horror stories and Jill Thompson is a favorite artist of mine for her Scary Godmother and Sandman books. And Evan Dorkin does a nice job making the characters interesting, and developing each of their own personalities chapter after chapter eventhough each chapter can be a stand alone story. Its a story of group of domestic dogs and one stray cat who deals and experience the supernatural from witches' pet cats, vengeful animal spirits and zombie dogs. Its like hellboy mix with Cats and Dogs.

Look! Zombie dogs. Her art style may be a little realistic on this book, but her characters facial expression fits right in, and look at these impressive traditional 'Watercolor' works!

The second book is Smile by Raina Telgemeier published by Scholastic. Yes it's a graphic novel for kids, but still its a very good read and the cartoony artworks makes improves the story even more. The book is about a sixth grader girl named Raina after she accidentally trips and fall causing her two front permanent teeth to fall out. That begins her journey to her teenage years mixed with friends, dentists and braces. Its a feel good book for those who wants a warm feeling after reading it.

I always like Reina's artwork since I saw the Babysitter Club graphic novels. Its something about her work that looks refreshing and alive to me. Its a change of pace after reading too much manga and Marvel and DC books.
